Training − Effective Action Through Understanding

As part of the government action plan La radicalisation au Québec : agir, prévenir, détecter et vivre ensemble, and in collaboration with the SHERPA research centre of the University Institute with Regard to Cultural Communities (affiliated with the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal), MEES is offering a series of three workshops for education professionals. Each session comprises three distinct, complementary modules:

• Understanding ‒ In this module, participants explore concepts pertaining to social polarization (i.e. radicalization, radicalization leading to violence, terrorism, etc.), and are introduced to theoretical concepts and Québec research findings regarding social polarization as well as contributing factors and related issues.
• Prevention ‒ In this module, participants will discover approaches to prevention that are consistent with intercultural education and with the promotion of inclusion and respect for diversity.
• Taking action ‒ In this module, education personnel are presented with suggestions of ways to involve students in discussion about radicalization leading to violence and other sensitive topics. The themes addressed include the development of critical thinking in young people, identity expression in educational space, and the meaning of dialogue in school.
