Examining Committee on the Language of Instruction

The Examining Committee on the Language of Instruction is constituted under section 85.1 of the Charter of the French language (CQLR, chapter C-11). Its purpose is to examine all reasoned requests addressed to the Minister that describe a serious family or humanitarian situation warranting a declaration of eligibility for instruction in English for a child whose request for eligibility based on the other criteria specified in the Charter of the French language (sections 73, 76, 81, 84.1, 85 and 86.1) has been refused by a person designated by the Minister.

Each request is examined confidentially, impartially and objectively, and the committee members exercise their functions independently. For each request submitted, the committee reports its observations to the Minister and makes a favourable or unfavourable recommendation. In cases where the committee makes a favourable recommendation, the Minister may declare a child eligible to receive instruction in English.

The following document provides information on how to submit a request: The Language of Instruction in Québec and the Role of the Examining Committee on the Language of Instruction.
