Bridges Between Training Programs
As used here, the word “bridge” refers to any means that facilitates the student’s transition from one educational path to another. Bridges are used to ensure continuity from one program of study to the next.
Between training for semiskilled trades and certain vocational training programs
This provisional bridge enables holders of a Training Certificate for a Semiskilled Trade (TCST) to be admitted to a certain number of vocational training programs (DVS) in the Prerequisite 2 category. Therefore, they can obtain their DVS by passing the courses associated with their choice of vocational training program.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission, students must:
- be at least 16 years old on September 30 of the school year in which they start vocational training
- hold a TCST (have done at least 900 hours of training and successfully completed the practical training component)
- have earned the required credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in Secondary Cycle One in general education in the youth sector or in Secondary II in adult general education
Bridge between Prework Training and Training for a Semiskilled Trade
In the third year of PreWork Training, students may take the 375 hours of course work in Training for a Semiskilled Trade, out of the prescribed time for the Work Skills program, if they:
- have successfully completed the Work Skills program during the second year of training
- meet the specific requirements for admission to a program leading to a semiskilled trade established by the Minister
