The housing assistance measure offsets part of the housing expenses paid by the parents of students who are enrolled in an Arts/Study program and who require lodging away from their principal place of residence to pursue their studies. Board and lodging fees are the amounts paid by students for meals and accommodation provided on a regular basis by someone other than their parents.
Standards for Granting Allowances
Students are provided with housing assistance of $225 multiplied by the number of months they attend school, for a maximum of 10 months per school year.
Instead of housing assistance, travel assistance is provided if the school board considers that it is preferable for students to commute rather than live away from home. However, this assistance cannot be granted if it is possible to use public transit or transportation organized or subsidized by the school board. Students are provided with travel assistance of $100 multiplied by the number of months they attend school, for a maximum of 10 months per school year.
