Section 4 of the Basic school regulation for preschool, elementary and secondary education provides that promotion and prevention services must be offered to provide students with an environment conducive to the development of a healthy lifestyle and competencies beneficial to their health and well-being.
School boards are already making substantial efforts to provide these services. To give them greater support, the Wellness-Oriented School program is being maintained for students in Elementary Cycle Three, with an allocation of $3 million.
Educational institutions will be able to set up projects to encourage students to adopt healthy lifestyle habits such as regular physical activity and a healthy diet.
Under the agreement on complementarity of services between the health and social services network and the education network, such projects can be included within a broader framework such as the Healthy Schools approach.

Under this agreement between the two networks, it was decided to create a strategy to promote healthy schools, such as the Healthy Schools approach, a priority within the context of actions in favour of health promotion and prevention.
