Reading Recognition Awards

The Reading Recognition Awards are designed to pay tribute to projects initiated within the school community that inspire a love of reading and promote the use of different resources.

Selection criteria

Selection committees will assess the projects in order to select those that were most involved in their community. They must have sparked the students’ interest and helped them to develop their reading skills.

More specifically, the selection committee will consider the projects based on the following elements:

  • Scope
    Projects that encourage the development of varied and long-lasting reading habits
  • Effectiveness
    Projects that help young people to develop the knowledge and strategies they need to read different types of texts on different subjects in a variety of media
  • Collaboration
    Projects that promote dialogue and partnerships between schools, families and communities
  • Entrepreneurship
    Projects that involve young people in their own personal and social development
  • Complementarity with the Québec Education Program
    Projects consistent with the educational aims and values of the Québec Education Program
  • Projects supported by research

Projects must be carried out in compliance with the Copyright Act.

Procedure

Step 1 – Preparation of the candidate’s project

The students involved in the project, or the person in charge, must:

  1. prepare a description of the project in audio, video or written form
  2. where necessary, attach appendices, visual material, audio or visual files, a list of Internet addresses, etc., to better describe the project and highlight student involvement
  3. submit these materials to the administration of the school or centre

Step 2 – Consent and compliance with the Copyright Act

The person in charge of the project must ensure that:

  • that the participating student (or a holder of parental authority, where applicable) has given his or her consent to the submission and accepts that additional documents containing images (video recordings, photographs or other material) or audio recordings from which students can be identified are to be submitted to the Ministère, which will then publish them, mainly on its website
  • projects and activities comply with the Copyright Act

Step 3 – Submission of the candidate’s project

The administration of the school or centre must:

  1. accept the project for submission
  2. complete, print and sign the Project Submission Form
  3. scan the signed form and send it and its appendices to the Ministère by email by March 23, 2018. You can also send the appendices by regular mail. In the submission, please specify the name of the school and school board.
