This component of the Culture in the Schools program allows students to participate, for an extended period of 4 to 12 weeks, in a project involving artistic exploration.
It also offers professional artists or writers an opportunity to spend time in the school environment and to find inspiration there for their own creative pursuits.
This component promotes diversity in the cultural activities offered to students throughout their education. Professional artists, writers and cultural organizations are encouraged to share their creativity with students by introducing them to a variety of artistic works and by having them discover occupations related to the arts and culture through an active, hands-on approach.
Students participate in projects that expose them to the creative ideas, means of expression and language of the cultural partners as well as different aspects of the craft.
Recognized artists, writers and cultural organizations can thus help students to develop critical judgment, aesthetic awareness, a better understanding of themselves and others, and greater self-esteem.
It is important to mention that education and cultural partners must work together to develop an innovative artistic or literary project. The teacher must be an active participant in the project and provide pedagogical expertise. The cultural partner in no way serves as a substitute for the teacher during the project. Their role is to accompany students taking part in a creative process that extends over several weeks.
The Québec Education Program (QEP) requires that students play an active role in their learning and fosters the integration of the cultural dimension into the schools. Teachers must make the relevant connections between the QEP and the projects supported under the Schools Host an Artist or Writer component.
The deadline for receipt of applications has passed for the 2020-2021 school year.
