School Board Elections

On August 4, 2021, the government issued Order in Council 1076-2021 to authorize the holding of school elections in English school boards on September 26, 2021.

The content of this page concerns only the school boards in the English network

The Minister of Education is responsible for the application of the Act respecting school elections, which governs, among other things, the holding and conduct of elections by English school boards. The Minister also has certain responsibilities with respect to school elections, including the right to authorize a school board to divide its territory into a different number of electoral divisions than the one set out in the Act.

Élections Québec is a neutral and independent institution that reports directly to the National Assembly. It supports English school boards in the organization of their elections and ensures compliance with financing rules for candidates.

Public health measures

To ensure personal safety in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and to foster compliance with the guidelines currently in effect, public health measures are recommended for the school elections organizers. In addition, Order in Council 2020-091, adopted under the Public Health Act, establishes rules that apply specifically to the current situation and adapts the rules provided for in the Act respecting school elections to elect certain member of the boards of directors of English-language school service centres. The measures contained in Order in Council 2020-091 replace the usual application of the Act respecting school elections.
